About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for 1-2 physiotherapists to work in the Specialist Mental Health Service within the Health New Zealand Waitaha.

These will be permanent roles that report directly to the Clinical Leader of Physiotherapy, with flexibility of days and hours available. 

We would consider any mix of 0.4 - 1.0 FTE for the right candidates

This role will be working alongside other allied health colleagues and medical staff to deliver high-quality and effective patient care. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment in partnership with Specialist Mental Health Service consumers who have mobility, functional and developmental difficulties with their physical and mental health.
  • Work collaboratively with the consumer, their whanau/family, and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide quality patient-centred care.

About you

Skills ideal for this role:

  • Clinical experience working with acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions and falls management.
  • Basic knowledge of neurological and respiratory conditions.
  • Clinical decision-making skills and use of evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Organisational, communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Use of appropriate physiotherapy interventions for each consumer.
  • Experience with providing patient education and running group interventions.
  • Registration with the New Zealand Physiotherapy Board with current Annual Practising Certificate is essential.

Experience working within mental health is not essential.   Orientation, ongoing training, supervision, and support for working within SMHS will be provided for the successful applicant.
