This is an exciting opportunity to use your knowledge of: Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori to strengthen the capability of SMHS kaimahi. You will empower staff to build their knowledge, confidence, and skills in delivering culturally safe, responsive care for tāngata whaiora and their whānau.

About the Role
As the Pou Ako Mātauranga, you will be responsible for supporting the workforce development of our Pūkenga Atawhai while building the cultural capability of all Specialist Mental Health Services kaimahi. Working in partnership with others, you will foster a culture of ako (continuous learning), manaakitanga (respect and care), and whanaungatanga (strong relationships), enabling kaimahi to deliver culturally safe and equitable care. The role reflects the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and contributes to a workplace where inclusion, empathy, partnership, and haumarutanga (safety) are valued and embedded in everyday practice.
About the Team
The Pou Ako Mātauranga is part of the SMHS training unit team, supporting the ongoing learning and development of SMHS kaimahi. The role reports to the Nurse Consultant: Workforce Development with tautoko (support) from the Pou Whirinaki, ensuring cultural leadership and guidance are embedded across the role.
About you
As the Pou Ako Mātauranga you will need to:
- Have a robust and in-depth understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori.
- Be a Registered Health Professional, with a current annual practicing certificate.
- Have a minimum of three years of clinical experience in a tertiary mental health service.
- Have experience in delivering education to adults in either a clinical or education setting.
- Hold a minimum of a post-graduate diploma in a relevant area.
