Child Adolescent & Family Inpatient Unit - Psychologist
- Hillmorton Hospital, Christchurch
- Part-time, fixed term for 12 months 0.6FTE until Feb 2027 (Psychologist taking LWOP)
- NZ Registered Psychologist with a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology or Child and Family Psychology
- Experience in a mental health setting working with Children and Adolescents is desirable with a strong awareness of the family dynamics and culture that children and adolescents currently face.

The Child, Adolescent and Family Inpatient Unit (Child, Adolescent & Family Mental Health Service) is a specialist mental health service that provides assessment and treatment of children and young people up to 18 years of age (older if still at High School) who present with moderate to severe mental health problems, and their families.
We have a 0.6FTE (24hr per week) part-time position within our Child Adolescent and Family Inpatient unit Team for a NZ Registered Psychologist with a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology or Child and Family Psychology and a clear passion for children, young people and their families.
The clinicians on the team have a range of skills and areas of clinical expertise. Come and join a supportive team that is committed and works hard for children, young people and their families/whanau in Christchurch and Canterbury.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing comprehensive clinical assessment and formulation, psychometric testing and therapeutic interventions individually, in groups and with parents and families;
- Individual sessions as well as work within group environments;
- Developing plans and regularly reviewing cases collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary clinical team and reviewing your role with the Clinical Manager.
About you
Your skills will include:- The ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with young people, family/whanau, the clinical team and community, education and statutory organisations is essential;
- A significant part of the work is with parents and families and experience or a strong interest in upskilling in this area will be favourable;
- NZ Registered Psychologist with a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology or Child and Family Psychology is essential;
- Self motivated with the ability to be flexible and adaptive to different stressors within our work environment;
- Experience in a mental health setting is highly desirable.
