Registered Nurse - Acute Assessment and Stabilisation Unit
- Registered Nurse – Casual position
- Acute Assessment and Stabilisation Unit
- Te Rau Kawakawa Buller Health and Medical Centre
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
As a Registered Nurse, you will utilise your clinical expertise and critical thinking to assess health needs, provide comprehensive care, and support individuals in managing their health. This role involves working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring excellence in nursing practice across various medical and surgical presentations.
This is a unique role within Te Tai o Poutini, where you will be able to work within a Rural Acute Assessment and Stabilisation Unit as well as working within inpatient care. You will also have the flexibility to expand further. With the new model of care that is being introduced here in Buller we are changing the way that health care is being delivered to our community, and you will be involved in seeing this completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide holistic nursing assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Deliver high-quality care that aligns with best practice guidelines and legislative requirements.
- Maintain accurate and professional documentation, always ensuring data security.
- Work closely with patients, whānau (family), and health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.
- Support sustainable service changes and contribute to practice development.
- Promote a safe and culturally competent practice environment.
- Prevent, manage, and escalate clinical risk
appropriately.
About the Service
The West Coast of the South Island is rugged, isolated, and absolutely stunning. Stretching from Karamea in the north to Haast in the south, we're the largest geographical Te Whatu Ora locality, with a population of just 32,500. Delivering healthcare in this environment can be challenging.
This is an excellent role for a Registered Nurse who is looking to step into or expand their skills within an acute and emergency environment. This is a close-knit unit where nurses work collaboratively, so the ability to work effectively as part of a small, high-performing team is essential.
About You
You will be a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse with a commitment to deliver high-quality, patient - centred care. You will bring strong clinical skills, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to your practice.
You will ideally have:
- New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
- Commitment to completing cultural competency training.
- Full, clean NZ driver’s license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work with children.
Desirable:
- Experience in a senior nursing role.
- Current portfolio as part of the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP).
- Completion of, or willingness to undertake, the Australasian Triage Course.
- Minimum of 3 years’ post-registration nursing
experience.
