About the role
Our Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS) are at the leading edge of mental health service delivery. We provide a range of inpatient and community services to tangata whaiora in the Waitaha Rohe (Canterbury district).
The Anxiety Disorders Service is a Specialty Mental Health Service of Te Whatu Ora, Waitaha [Health New Zealand, Canterbury] provides specialist assessment and treatment to people (aged 18-65) whose everyday life is significantly affected by an anxiety disorder. We are currently recruiting a Pῡkenga Atawhai to join our team of dedicated health professionals striving to provide the best quality care to consumers and their families/ Whānau This is a 0.5FTE 20 hour per week permanent position.
The Anxiety Disorders Service has a multi-disciplinary team comprised of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Therapists, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Registrar, administration staff and access to a Physiotherapist and Dietician.
Our service’s philosophy is whānaungatanga - acknowledging the centrality of whānau in our work and the lives of tangata whaiora.
As a Pῡkenga Atawhai you will:
- Āwhina and manaaki our tangata whaiora and whānau.
- Connect and engage with tangata whaiora to understand their cultural requirements through assessments (Te Arotakenga - cultural assessments).
- Develop and maintain connections in the community to ensure pathways to wellbeing are available to tangata whaiora and their whānau.
- Work alongside and guide our qualified professionals to be culturally responsive.
- Willing to be on the out of hours roster.
- Tautoko (support) our kaimahi (staff) in understanding Tikanga Māori.
About You
To be successful as a Pῡkenga Atawhai, your core strengths will include:
- Experience working with tangata whaiora who have mental health difficulties.
- A strong knowledge of Te Ao Māori (Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga Māori) and ability to apply these values when connecting with others.
- A natural ability to build and nurture relationships.
- Reflective communication practices and a holistic view when caring for others.
- A NZ driver’s license is essential.
